More sites eyed for vets memorial mock-up

The Veteran’s Memorial Task Force of Clear Lake recently met and decided on three potential locations to place mock-ups for a proposed Veteran’s Memorial. As reported last week, a mock-up of the memorial has already been placed at the Seawall in downtown Clear Lake for public

viewing. The scaled display will remain at that location until mid-February.

The memorial replica will be moved to the former City Beach water tower area in mid-February and at the Main Avenue entrance off S. 8th Street the first half of March.  The task force committee will give public notice when the display is being moved to a new location.

Comments and suggestions can be made by e-mail to: [email protected] and by regular mail addressed to Veterans Memorial Task Force, P.O. Box 185, Clear Lake Iowa  50428 or dropped off at City Hall.

Members of the task force are:  Amy Hogg, a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; Dave Parks and Eldon Vine, members of the Clear Lake VFW; retired pastor Dean Hess; Realtor Diana Symonds; businessman and community member at large Dean Hess; City Councilman Dana Brant; and Nicole Rognes Olson, an attorney and community member at large.

The committee will be accepting public comments for consideration until the end of March.  The task force will meet in April to determine if a recommendation can be made to the City Council or if additional research will be required.

The committee noted its thanks to the VFW of Clear Lake for the contribution of labor and materials for the memorial display.
