Momentous night for G-H/V girls soccer team
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team had a momentous night on Friday, May 10, as the team captured its first win in program history. The Cardinals topped Humboldt, 2-1.
Kelly Babcock recorded the first goal of the game in the second half to put the Cards up 1-0.
The Wildcats returned the favor shortly after that to knot the game, 1-1.
With less than six minutes remaining in the game, G-H/V’s Sarah Marmaro scored to give the Cardinals the 2-1 victory.
“This game was a huge step in the right direction for this program,” said Coach Josh Banse. “The improvement from these girls is so remarkable, it is very encouraging as a coach.”
Emily Spilman and Mackenzie Haag both had three shots on goal. Goalie Sam Betz had eight saves.
“I want to commend the girls that have stuck it out, their willingness to keep working hard to get this huge win is awesome,” said Banse.
