Michael S. Wyborny

Michael “Mick” Shane Wyborny, 65, of Mason City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home.

Per Mick’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, 340 20th St. S.W., Mason City, with Pastor Nate DeVries officiating.  The family requests casual attire be worn for the service.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, a special fund has been established at Northwood State Bank, 2650 4th St. S.W., Mason City, in care of Mary Lou Wyborny for memorials.

Michael “Mick” Shane Wyborny, son of the late George and Pauline (Schindel) Wyborny, was born July 14, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was raised in rural Rock Falls and attended school in Rock Falls and Nora Springs before he began working at the sugar beet plant in Mason City.  He was employed there for a short time until he was drafted in the Army in January of 1969.  He served his country faithfully until he was honorably discharged in December of 1970. 

Mick returned to the sugar beet plant in Mason City to work and also worked as a laborer for Bob Blakesley.  Shortly thereafter, Mick was a floor covering installer, installing carpet, vinyl, and vinyl tile.  He was self-employed for over 43 years in this trade, whom Jim Huffman was his mentor.  

He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Peterson on Dec. 17, 1999 in Mason City.

Mick loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing pool, cribbage, and gambling.  He also enjoyed taking road trips and loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Mick will be missed by his wife, Mary Lou Wyborny; stepchildren, Tania (Jeramy) Viet, Zack (Jenny) Nuehring, Angela Jansen, Kim (Vance) Wendell, and Jason (Becky) Jansen; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;  brother, Tony (Sandi) Wyborny; mother-in-law, Jean Peterson; four sisters-in-law, Margaret (Pat) Decenso, Judy (Ron) Smith, Patty (Mike) Buland and Karen Green; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ashlynn Nuehring; mother-in-law, Margaret Groen; father-in-law, Marvin Peterson; and brothers-in-law, William Peterson and Steve Elliott.

Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.
