Men charged with cheating to win ice fishing tournament
Two North Iowa men have been charged for alleged cheating at a fishing tournament on Clear Lake earlier this month.
Aaron Lauber, 23, of Clear Lake, and Jason Schuttler, 25, of Manly, turned in the winning entry of 50 fish weighing 15 pounds, 14 ounces at the Yellow Bass Bonanza held at Clear Lake on Sunday, Feb. 8.
Acting on a tip, DNR Conservation Officer Matt Washburn, along with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, investigated whether fish caught outside of the tournament’s hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. had been added to Lauber and Schuttler’s total.
Lauber and Schuttler have been charged with one count of theft by deception each. First place in the tournament had a prize package valued at $1,500.
