MC man drowns in lake early Saturday

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office reports a Mason City man drowned in Clear Lake Saturday, May 24.

At approximately 2:56 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a missing person report near Farmers Beach, on the lake’s south 

shore, in rural Ventura.  Deputies located the body of David Jon Caspers, 26, of Mason City, in the lake.   Caspers was fishing with friends when the incident occurred.  

A statement issued by Sheriff Kevin Pals stated no foul play is expected. 

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office will continue to investigate the incident.   

Assisting agencies at the scene include the Clear Lake Fire Department, Clear Lake Police Department, Garner Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Ventura Fire Department and Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Betz.
