Matthew J. Amos
Matthew Justin Amos, 54, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, at Ward Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake. A Celebration of Life will follow at the VFW, 219 Main Ave., Clear Lake; at 6:30 p.m.
Matthew Justin Amos was born on March 8, 1969 in Mason City, to John and Mary (VonderLinde) Amos. Matt was an only child and his parents devoted their lives to him through its entirety. Growing up in Clear Lake he spent many days at the lake with friends and family. Matthew graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1987. He continued his education at North Iowa Area Community College and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Northern Iowa where he was in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity.
Matt’s adult life was spent living in Clear Lake, and in 1999 he was united in marriage to Nicolle Medina; to this union two children were born, Olivia and John Sullivan.
Matt loved to golf and spent a lot of time playing and watching the sport. Every year he and his friends looked forward to the Cabin Classic, a weekend spent golfing, playing cards, and simply being with “the guys.”
Matt was a laid-back, very social person with a sense of humor that was recognized by all. He enjoyed being out and about with his numerous groups of friends and often made new ones wherever he went. Being around Matt meant you were in for a good time and lots of laughs because his sense of humor, even if he didn’t realize it, was always with him.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan and looked forward to game day. Through victory and heartbreak (mostly heartbreak) he supported his teams no matter what. Classic rock was his favorite type of music, especially the Grateful Dead.
Matt accomplished many things in life, but the most significant was being a father. He was so proud of Olivia and John Sullivan. One of his favorite pastimes was sharing stories and the achievements of his children.
Those left to cherish memories of Matt include his children, Olivia Amos and John Sullivan Amos; his parents, John and Mary Amos; aunts, uncles, cousins; many friends.
Preceding him in death are his grandparents; cousin, David Sullivan Quinn; beloved friends, Charlie Schear and Lincoln Allen.
Memorials may be directed to Oak Hills Golf Course, 518 27 Ave. S., Clear Lake, and Prairie Ridge, 320 N. Eisenhower Ave, Mason City, in Matt’s honor.
