Martin H. Meier
Martin Herman Meier, 92, of Swaledale, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023 at the Sheffield Care Center.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church, 1310 US-18, Clear Lake, with Pastor Chris McComic. Burial will be held in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake. Visitation will continue prior to the service at the church from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday.
Martin was born on May 19, 1930, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Gustav and Hermine (Wedertz) Meier. He was a graduate of Swaledale High School. On Oct. 15, 1950 he married Lois Rickard. Together they had five children and raised them all on a farm outside of Swaledale. Martin was a hard worker and spent his life as a farmer and occasionally worked other jobs.
Martin was a lifelong member of the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church; he served many positions in the church over the years. The most prominent position he had was being an Elder for the church. Oftentimes Martin would take people out for lunch after church.
Family was most important to Martin. He truly cherished being able to attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games and activities.
Those left to cherish memories of Martin are his children, LaRee (Neal) Manson, of Marathon, Wis., Bradley (Rachel) Meier, of Swaledale, LaDonna Woodford, of Apache Junction, Az., Gregory (Julie) Meier, of Swaledale, LaVon (Paul) Bein, of Montello, Wis.; grandchildren, Stacey Guralski, Lisa (Pat) Williamson, Joel (Mindy) Meier, Christina (Matt) Hoeft, Amy (Darren) Page, Anna (Justin) Gooder, Sarah (Joe) Luyobya, Cari (Marshall) Dryg, Andy (Mai) Woodford, Chelsy King, Shealyn (Rob) Benson, Jackson Regnier; 29 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sister, MaryAnn Ditsworth; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
Martin is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Meier; his parents; siblings, Dorethea Pals-Sargent, Richard Meier; mother and father in-law, Charles and Elsie Rickard; and sister in-law; Jean Barnes.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
