Mark Werstein
Mark A. Werstein, 64 of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Clear Lake passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at the University of Iowa in Iowa City after a brief illness.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2024 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. North, Northwood, IA. A private family inurnment will be held in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday before the service.
Mark Allan was born October 24, 1960 in Mason City, the son of Donald D. and Joan L. (Kruse) Werstein. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1979. He continued his education at NIACC and the University of Iowa, focusing on Marketing. After working in Dallas, TX Mark returned to NIACC in the late 80’s to become an Electronics Technician. He soon began work with Rockwell Collins (now Collins Aerospace), eventually settling in Cedar Rapids, where he was currently employed.
Mark loved time spent outdoors. Whether he was riding RAGBRAI, mountain biking, snow skiing, or walking, he looked forward to the fresh air. He was happiest when spending a sunny afternoon on the golf course. Mark was also an avid sports fan. As a proud alumnus of the University of Iowa, he cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes with great enthusiasm. He also looked forward to watching the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins, never missing an opportunity to support his favorite teams. But most of all, Mark loved time spent with family and friends and looked forward to the Clear Lake Fireworks each year.
Surviving are his mother, Joan of Clear Lake; brother, Kevin (Nina) Werstein of Plymouth, MN; nieces and nephews, Casey, Shannon, and Courtney; aunt, E. Jean (Dougals) Olmsted of Las Vegas, NV; as well as cousins, and cherished friends.
Preceding him in death are his father, Donald; maternal and paternal grandparents; and uncles, Lyle, Glen and Richard Werstein.
Ward-Van Slyke is in charge of arrangements.
