Lois “Lindy” Hansen
Lois “Lindy” Ann Hansen, 84, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake with the Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Lois Hansen Memorial Fund.
Lindy was born July 9, 1927 in Clear Lake, Iowa the daughter of Chris and Marie (Sorenson) Olsen, just two short months after Charles Lindberg’s Trans-Atlantic Flight. Her father nicknamed her “Lindy” and it stuck her entire life. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1945.
Lindy worked as a bookkeeper for Williams Brothers Pipeline and Clear Lake Bank and Trust Company. After World War II, she met and married Clifford “Biff” Hansen.
She became a seamstress, mostly out of necessity to provide clothes for herself and the growing family. Out of this came an interest and appreciation of all needlecrafts. She knitted countless sweaters, mittens and gloves for the family and many afghans for friends and neighbors. She crocheted several elaborate bedspreads and quilts. Her talents got her an in-home job with the P.T. Castle Cap and Gown company. Later in her life, she taught herself the art of tatting. She and her husband owned and operated Lincliff Inc.
The true love that Lindy had was her four children and there was no sacrifice too big to keep her kids happy. This love had only been superseded by the love and pride she has for her five grandchildren.
Lindy is survived by her four children, Vance Hansen, Ventura, Iowa, Kevin Hansen, Clear Lake, Susan DeVary, Osage, Iowa and David Hansen, Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Misty (Matt) Green, Killeen, Texas, Nathaniel Hansen, Ventura, Jared Hansen, New Hope, Minn., Lynzy DeVary, Des Moines, Iowa and Jake Hansen, Clear Lake; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Emily Green; and two sisters, Irene Hansen, Whitefish, Mont. and Janice Bowman, Des Moines, Iowa; and nieces and nephews, Christie (Mark) Grattidge, Terry and Tom Hansen and Scott Bowman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathryn Marnett; and daughter-in-law, Kimm Hansen.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
