Local officials help to send meth dealer to prison for 30 years

 A California man who conspired to distribute methamphetamine in Iowa was sentenced Friday to 30 years in federal prison.
    Shawn Jones, 42, from San Diego, Calif., received the prison term after a Jan. 19, 2012, jury verdict finding him guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.  Jones was previously convicted of conspiracy to distribute marijuana in the United States District Court Southern District of California in 2006.

    The evidence at trial showed that Jones was involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine from 2009 through about April 2010.  Jones and others distributed more than five pounds of methamphetamine in the Clear Lake area.  In November, 2009, Jones made two deliveries of nearly pure methamphetamine to a co-conspirator in Clear Lake. The deliveries involved one and three pounds of methamphetamine, respectively. The methamphetamine was smuggled in hidden compartments of the vehicles driven from California to Clear Lake.  And in December 2009, Jones assisted another in the delivery of another pound of nearly pure methamphetamine to Clear Lake.
