Lions start track season strong

Clear Lake’s two State qualifying athletes last season led the way for their track team at the Wartburg indoor meet held
Tuesday, March 18.
Chandler Diercks demonstrated his State championship form, winning the long jump with a leap of 24’ 4.75”. Teammate Jake Harle was second in the event with a mark of 20’ 2.75”.
State hurdler Connor Nosbisch was also a winner, breaking the tape in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 7.97. Chase Bacon also competed in the event, placing 17th in 9.25.

 Diercks was also second in the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.84. Pete Swenson was 39th in the event in 7.82. Harle was fifth in the 200 meter dash in 24.18, while Dustin King was 17th in 24.92.
“I thought the boys did a fantastic job, considering we just came off of spring break and with the weather and winter sports we hadn’t been able to practice much. We competed against 29 other boys teams from all four classes.  We are excited for the weather to warm up and get outside and go,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach.
Other top finishes by the Lions included high jumper Alex Vander Ploeg tying for third place by clearing 5’10”. Dustin King and McKean Bang were seventh and 12th respectively in the 400 meter dash in 56.38 and 56.88. In the shot put, Mitchell Jordan was 12th with a toss of 42’ 4.75” and Hunter Wubben finished 29th with a throw of 37’ 5”.
Spencer Orr placed 16th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:25.21 and Tavian Coleman was 33rd in the 1500 in 6:53.31.
In relay events, the Lions’ 4x 200 with Diercks, Nosbisch, Harle and Vander Ploeg was fifth in 1:39.44 .
The 1600 meter medley with Bacon, Zach Tatum, Parker Truesdell and Alex Webb was sixth in 4:01.28.
The 4x400 with Bang, Truesdell, Tatum and King was 13th in 3:52.44.
