Lions roll over A-P, 4-1

The Clear Lake boys soccer team got off to a fast start and went on to collect a 4-1 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 15.

The Lions jumped to a quick lead, scoring the first goal just :27 seconds into the match.  Carson Farmer made an attack up the right side line to the corner.  Farmer crossed the ball to the center of the field, finding Karlen Lu for the early score.

The second score came in the 25th minute when MJ Mixdorf passed the ball into Zach Zwiefel.  Zwiefel worked through a scrum in front of the keeper and managed to get a foot on the ball for the score.  The Lions were leading the match 2-0 at half.

Brice Wilcke assisted on the third goal, finding Alex Gonzalez  who converted the pass for a score in the 47th minute.

In the 51st minute of the contest, the Lions reversed the ball into the back third of the field which resulted in Aplington Parkersburg’s lone score.  The Lions responded three-minutes later, when Ernie Miszewski connected with Jack Abbas for the final score of the contest.

“We controlled the ball well and kept the ball on their half of the field a majority of the contest,” said Clear Lake Coach Matt Anderson.  “A-P played a defensive 4-4-2 set and occasionally they appeared to be in a 5-4-1.  Having so many players packed in the box made it hard to get quality shots on goal.  Coach DiMarco and I were able to identify adjustments for the team and coaching which should help us improve as we move into the season.”

The Lions’ next match is Thursday in Alden at 5:30 p.m.
