Lions claims top honors at Forest City Relays
The Clear Lake boys track team showed North Iowa it is a force to be reckoned with this spring. The Lion varsity claimed first place at the Forest City Relays, while the junior varsity was runner-up in its division.
“I was so proud of all the kids’ efforts, grades nine to 12, to come out and get a first varsity and a second place for the JV. It really could get us the confidence and excitement to have one of the greatest years for Clear Lake track. We will see, but it is definitely a great beginning,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach.
The Lions earned 134.5 points to win. Webster City was second with 109.5 and Forest City was third with 97.
State champion long jumper Chandler Diercks supplied 20 points for the team. He won his signature event with a leap of 23’ 8.75”. He also won the 200 meter dash in 23.77 and was a member of the winner 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Members of the 4x100 were Zach Tatum, Chase Bacon, MaKean Bang and Chandler Diercks. The 4x200 included Tatum, Bang, Parker Truesdell and Diercks
The Lions also got a win from King in the 400 meter dash, breaking the tape in 54.81. Teammate Tavian Coleman was fourth in 56.92.
Truesdell was a winner in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:01.67.
Bacon and Parker Crispin finished second and third respectively in the 110 hurdles in 16.66 and 16.69. MaKean Bang placed fifth in the 100 meter dash in 12.0. Tanner Huey was sixth in the 200 in 26.31. Lucas Kirchoff was sixth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.79.
In field events, Alex Vander Ploeg finished second in the high jump, clearing 6’ 2”. Zach Tatum was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18’ 10.5”.
In addition to winning the 4x100 and 4x200, the Lions were best in the Sprint Medley with Zach Tatum, MaKean Bang, Dustin King and Zach Lester clocking a 4:00.62 and Shuttle Hurdle. The hurdle team ran a 1:02.2 with Truesdell, Crispin, Vander Ploeg and Bacon.
The 4x400 relay with Coleman, Brock Adams, Vander Ploeg and King was second in 3:49.21.
The 4x800 relay of Lester, Torian Lee, Speed Toyne and Kirchoff placed seventh in 9:52.42.
Junior varsity
Forest City captured the title in the junior varsity meet with 151 points, with the Lions finishing as runner-up with 127. Webster City took third with 76 points.
The Lions were strong in the sprints, with Karter Anderson winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.74. Tanner Huey and Anderson placed third and fourth respectively in the 100 meter dash in 12.6 and 12.68. Dylan Crotty was fourth in the 400, clocking a 1:01.25.
Alex Vander Ploeg won the 110 huddles in a time of 17.12 and Cody Matz was fifth in 19.93.
In distance events, Jake Wessels placed third in the 1600 meter run in a time of 6:02.0. He was second in the 3200 in 13.30.0.
Luke Eggers was second and Will Kirschbaum third in the long jump with marks of 17’ 8.25” and 16’ 8.0” respectively. Michael Leaman was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 31’ 3.75”.
In the relays, the Lions won the 4x200 in 1:43.09 with Nick Eggers, Kelso, Luke Eggers and Speed Toyne
The sprint medley team of Dalton Grell, Toyne, Tyler Barker, and Matz also won in 4:20.04.
The 4x100 with Nick Eggers, Huey, Aaron Kelso, and Anderson was second in 48.84.
The 4x800 with Dalton Grell, Crisstian Jacobs, Dalton Menenga and Andy Hiscocks was second in 12:05.87 and the 400 meter shuttle hurdle relay team with Cody Matz, Noah Van Horn, Lyle Jumamoy and Torian Lee was third in 1:20.47.
The 4x400 relay of Crotty, Eggers, Kirschbaum and Van Horn was third in 4:16.95.
