Lions claim runner-up honors at Lynx Relays

Despite challenging weather, the Lions set several personal bests and finished as runner-up in the team standings at the Lynx Relays held Tuesday, April 21, in Webster City.  Humboldt took the team title with 106 points, followed by Clear Lake with 93 and Pocahontas Area with 89.  The host Lynx were a close fourth in the eight-team field with 86 points.

“We did a great job showing a lot of guts on a tough cold and windy night.  I was very impressed by how many personal bests were achieved on a tough night to run.  An overall very good night for Clear Lake track,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach, noting the Lion JV won their division.

Dustin King and Parker Truesdell picked up individual wins for the Lions.  King ran the open 400 meters in 52.62, while Truesdell won the 400 hurdles in 58.75.  Truesdell was also a member of two winning relays.  He teamed with Alex Vander Ploeg, Parker Crispin and Chase Bacon to  win the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1:01.79.  The 4x200 team of Truesdell, Merrill Cooper, Zach Tatum and McKean Bang won in 1:35.32.

Cooper also placed second in the 200 in 23.94 and third in the 100 in 11.62.  Crispin also added a second place finish to his night in the 110 hurdles in 16.13.  Vander Ploeg was runner-up in the high jump, clearing 6’.

Other Lions scoring points at the meet included:

•100: Chase Bacon, fifth, 11.81

•200: Tavian Coleman, fifth, 24.84

•110 hurdles: Bacon, sixth, 17.53

•4x100: Cooper, Tatum, Bang, Bacon, fifth, 46.33

•4x800: Zach Lester, Cody Matz, Lucas Kirchoff, Karter Anderson, fourth, 9:03.78

•Distance Medley: Tatum, Brock Adams, King, Anderson, fourth, 4:02.00

•High jump: Coleman, fifth, 5’8”

•Long jump: Tatum, fifth, 18’7”

 

Junior varsity

Clear Lake’s junior varsity ran away with the team title at the Lynx Relays. The Lions won two relays and were runner-up in two more on their way to collecting 126 points as winners.  Webster City was second with 71 and Pocahontas Area scored 59 points to place third.

The Lions had five winners in individual events.  Dylan Crotty finished first in the 400 meter dash in 57.68; Alex Vander Ploeg won the 110 hurdles in 17.27; Zach Lester was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.64; Nico McPherran jumped 5’4” to win the high jump; and Will Kirschbaum won the long jump with a mark of 17’2”.  Kirschbaum was also second in the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:55.13.  Luke Eggers was runner-up in the long jump at 17’.5”.

Placing third was Tanner Huey in the 100 in 12.45, Torian Lee in the 800 meters in 2:31.11. and Cristian Jacobs in the 400 hurdles in 1:19.34.

The 4x200 team of Eggers, Aaron Kelso, Huey and Speed Toyne was first in a time of 1:42.71. The other winning relay was the 4x800 with Toyne, Angel Medellin, Dalton Grell and Dalton Mennenga.  They were clocked in 9:57.71.

The 4x100 with Eggers, McPherran, Huey and Kelso was second in 50.28, as was the distance medley team os Grell, Cody Matz, Tyler Barker and Medellin in 4:49.17.

The 4x400 relay with Dylan Crotty, Eggers, Kirschbaum and Noah VanHorn was third in 4:14.11.
