Lions claim runner-up honors at Cowboy Relays
The Clear Lake boys raced to a runner-up finish at the Cowboy Relays held Friday in Clarion. A disqualification in the 4 x 200 proved costly for the Lions, as they finished second in the 2A division to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 121 to 116. Forest City was third with 104 points.
“They beat us by five, but we still had a very good meet,” said Lions Coach A.J. Feuerbach.
Chandler Diercks finished first in two individual events and anchored the winning 4x100 relay team of Zach Tatum, Chase Bacon and MaKean Bang. The relay ran a 45.53. Diercks also won the 200 in a time of 23.21 and the long jump with a mark of 23’8.75”. Tatum added a runner-up finish to his day, placing second in the 100 dash in 11.29.
Alex Vander Ploeg took first place in the high jump, clearing 6’0”. VanderPloeg was also part of the winning shuttle hurdle relay team with Parker Truesdell, Parker Crispin and Chase Bacon. Crispin and Bacon also placed second and third respectively in the 110 hurdles in 16.37 and 16.48 respectively. Truesdell was second in the 400 hurdles in 59.57.
The distance medley relay of Tatum, Bang, King and Zach Lester was second in a time of 3:38.43.

•400-yard dash: King, third, 54.50
•800-yard run: Karter Anderson, fourth, 2:18.99
•4 x 800: third, Lester, Lee, Cody Matz, Lucas Kirchoff
•4x400: fourth, Tavian Coleman, Brock Adams, Vander Ploeg, King
•High jump: Coleman, sixth, 5’6”
•Shot put: Aaron Kelso, sixth, 35’5.75”
