Lion runners earn all-conference honors

The Clear Lake boys and girls cross country team each claimed third place at the North Central Conference Meet held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at River Road Golf Course in Algona.  Five of the 14 varsity Lion runners earned all-conference honors by finishing in the top 10.

“All of the kids continue to improve and are excited for the State qualifying meet on Thursday,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.  “I am so impressed with how hard all of the kids work in practice.  Their hard work was evident at the NCC Meet.”

The top finisher for the Lions was Antonio DiMarco, who placed third in 16:44.  Teammate Jake Iverson finished fifth in 16:48.

“Antonio and Jake were very patient coming across the mil mark in 18th and 19th respectively,” explained Coach DiMarco.  “They had moved up to ninth and 10th by the second mile mark and continued to pass runners at the end of the race.”

Also helping the Lions to their third place overall finish was Alex Enanit, 21st in 17:25, and Ryan Faught, 23rd in 17:33.  Alex Blum rounded out the scoring with a 31st place finish in 17:58.  

Also competing in the race for the Lions was M.J. Mixdorf, 48th in 19:00, and Spencer Orr, 51st in 19:19.

Sierra Greiman and Taylor Hauser finished in seventh and eighth place respectively and Trudy Peterson was 10th in the girls race.  Greiman posted a time of 15:57, Hauser came in with a 16:04, and Peterson as clocked in 16:08.

Logan Anderson and Katie Ouverson rounded out the Lions’ team scoring by finishing in 30th and 35th in 17:28 and 17:45 respectively.  Also participating in the varsity race was Courtney Anderson, 55th in 18:31, and Amie Adams, 62nd in 19:06.

In the junior varsity races, Kirsten Reineke placed 15th in 19:42 and Kelli Gapinski bettered her personal best by 35 seconds to place 33rd in 21:23.

Justin Jurgens paced the Clear Lake JV boys, placing 15th in 18:58.  He was closely followed by Jacob Welper, 21st in 19:07.  The remainder of JV competitors included: Kaleb Froiland (52nd, 20:36), Jake Harle (57th, 20:45), Joe Schiller (58th, 20:50), Mark Peterson (60th, 21:03), Sam Jones (64th, 21:12), Ben Hillyer (85th, 23:10), Nicholas Holtz (89th, 23:25).
