LaVerne Severson
LaVerne “Vern” Severson, 78, Clear Lake, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 7, 2013 at the Rockwell Care Center.
A funeral service for Vern was held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at the Clear Lake Christian Church with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery with full military funeral honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Vern’s name to the Clear Lake Christian Church, Salvation Army, 203 1st St, SW, Mason City or the Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.
LaVerne “Vern” Severson, son of Glenn and Ann (Lien) Severson was born Oct. 21, 1934 in Clear Lake. Vern graduated from Clear Lake High School and enlisted in the Army in 1953. Following his honorable service, Vern worked with his father at Severson Excavating in 1962. He also drove semi across the country for nine years before opening the I-35 Truck Garage in 1972. Vern retired from his business in 2007.
Vern met Patricia Christensen in high school and was united in marriage on June 24, 1956 in Clear Lake. To this union, two children were born, Becky and Vicki.
Vern delighted in times with the family. He found happiness with his church family and viewing the ever changing seasons of the lake.
He will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Pat; daughters, Becky (Michael) and Vicki (Chris); grandchildren, Nicole, Brooke (Richard), Nathan, Trevor, Spencer, and Gregor; great-grandson, Oliver; sister, Sandra (Roger); Aunt Nelda; nieces, Annette, Debbie, Joan, and Kathy; and nephews, Tom, Mike, and Joe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
