Lake teens injured in van rollover returning from mission trip
A van carrying members of Zion Lutheran Church on a mission trip was involved in a serious accident Friday evening, March 16, in Oklahoma.
Eighteen-year-old Mike Asbe sustained head injuries in the accident and was transported to Pauls Valley General Hospital in Pauls Valley, Okla., before being flown by helicopter to Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Okla., according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Asbe, a passenger in the van, was released from the
hospital and is now recuperating at home.
The group was returning from a mission trip in Garland, Texas, when the accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday on Interstate 35 near Wynewood, Okla., about 60 miles south of Oklahoma City. The driver of the van, Jeffrey A. Just, 29, Clear Lake, lost control of the van due to the driver’s side rear wheel losing its tread, according to the highway patrol report.
