Lady Vikes well represented at State Track Meet
The Ventura girls track team will be well represented as they make a final trip to State as the Ventura Lady Vikes.
“This will be our girls’ final trip down to State as the Ventura Lady Vikes and I cannot wait to see how proudly they will represent our community,” said Coach Laura Huber.
The Lady Vikes placed sixth out of 14 teams at District competition held on Thursday, May 10, in Lake Mills.
Sophomore Emily Mathews qualified for State in three events. She will compete in the long jump, the 100 meter hurdles and will run the anchor leg of the Shuttle Hurdle Relay. She won the long jump event with a leap of 16’ 2.5”. She also won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.14.
The shuttle hurdle relay qualified for State with a time of 1:11.06. At the District meet they finished in third place. Members of the relay are Stacy Hackenmiller, Courtney Younge, Sola Stephenson and Mathews.
“Emily had her personal best in the long jump,” said Huber. “Mathews will be making her second trip to State in the long jump and the open 100 meter hurdles and the shuttle hurdle.”
Although Mathews is returning a second time to State in the shuttle hurdle, she takes a whole new team with her, who do not have State experience.
