Lady Vikes top N-K in first district win

 
    It was an exciting night for Ventura volleyball, as the team picked up its first district win again Northwood-Kensett on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Ventura. 
    The first set was not a strong effort by Ventura, but they were able to pull ahead and held on for a 25-20 victory.  The Lady Vikes jumped to a big lead in the second set, but allowed N-K back into the game, however, Ventura was able to hold on for the 25-22 win.  Missed serves plagued the Lady Vikes in the third set, but a never give up attitude sealed the win, 25-23.
    “The girls played their hearts out tonight,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.  “Everything seemed to come together for us.  The girls stepped up their communication, intensity and consistency.”

    Emily Mathews played a very solid overall game.  She was strong at the net, as well as the back row.  At the net she was 26/30 hitting with 11 kills.  She also collected one solo block and two assisted blocks.  In the back row, she had six digs.  She was 10/12 serving with one ace.
    Shelby Rayhons was also a team leader, connecting on 15/22 hits and four kills.  She was 12/13 at the service line with two aces.  She led the team in digs with 11.
    Brittani Watson was 9/13 hitting and five kills.  She also had two assisted blocks and two digs.
    Morgan Ames was 20/22 hitting with five kills.
    Mirada Frederick was 14/15 at the service line with one ace.  She also contributed four digs and one assist.
    Courtney Younge was 12/13 serving with one ace.  She had three digs and led the team in assists with 20.
    Hallie Hall was 12/13 serving with one ace and she had four digs.
    Sebelia Markle was 3/8 at the service line with one ace.  She also had four assists.
    “Even when down, the girls were able to stick with it and never quit.  I am a very proud coach,” said Roenfanz.
