Kathy Jean Astor

Kathy Jean Astor 69, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at her home unexpectedly.

A celebration of life memorial service was held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, with Mark Doebel officiating; following the memorial, visitation continued from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake.

Memorials may be directed to the family that will later be distributed in Kathy’s memory.

Kathy Frampton was born September 20, 1954, in Boone, the daughter of James Darrell and Elsie (Walsh) Frampton. Kathy graduated from Clear Lake High School in the class of 1972; continuing her education at Ellsworth Community College. Kathy resided in Minneapolis for several years until moving back to Clear Lake where she met Bill Astor. Kathy and Bill were united in marriage on March 16, 1985, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church; they were blessed with a son, Ethan Thomas Astor on August 13, 1987.

Kathy began her professional career as certified medical coder at Mercy Medical Center; retiring from Trinity Health in 2020.

Kathy was an avid bowler; in her youth she was a national bowling champion. She enjoyed cooking, trips to the casino, reading and golfing. Her greatest love was being a mother to Ethan; she relished in her trips to New York to visit him. Kathy was a devoted mother, attending all of Ethan’s school and sports activities.  She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Kathy was a member of the CLWGA and the Monday 500 Card Club at the VFW in Clear Lake.  

Kathy is survived by her husband William “Bill” Astor, Clear Lake; daughter-in-law, Harriet Wheeler, London; brothers, Kerry (Nancy) Frampton, Lake of the Ozarks, Kenneth (Deborah) Frampton, Clear Lake; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Katie Astor-Cosgrove, Susie (Tim) Brinkley, Sandy (Andy) Rutz, Jenny (Greg) Thill; several nieces and nephews; her beloved cats Jack & Diane; special friends Lori, Deb, Diane, Sandy and Sue; ladies of the CLWGA.

Kathy is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, mother and father-in law; son, Ethan and brother-in-law David Cosgrove. 

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
