Kathy Green

Kathy Green (Zobel), 64, of Mason City, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the home of her son, after battling with cancer, surrounded by family.

A celebration of life gathering for immediate family will be held at a later date.  Per her wishes, her body was cremated and there will be no visitation.  

Kathy was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Mason City, the daughter of John and Lily (Sorenson) Zobel.  Kathy attended school in Clear Lake and later on in life attained her GED.  She then attended NIACC and studied nursing.

Kathy devoted a good part of her life to caring for others as she worked at numerous nursing homes.  In 1991, Kathy put her life on hold to care for her father until his death in 1995.

Kathy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  She was a crafty person who enjoyed making different crafts and keeping her hands busy.  One of her loves in life was animals.  If there was a stray outside, they were sure to have a home with her.  Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her three daughters, Sherry (Troy) Thompson, Meservey, Iowa; Debra Berendes and her significant other, Kevin Bachman, Mason City; Lindy (Dan) Castronuovo, Clear Lake; one son, Larry (Jennifer) Simmer, Mason City; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her twin brother, Gary (Debra) Zobel, Mason City.  

She was preceded in death by both her parents.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
