Jones racks up team points for CL girls
The Clear Lake girls track team finished fifth at the Indian Relays held at Forest City Tuesday, April 28. Algona ran away with the team title with 178 points. Iowa Falls was second with 102 and Central Springs and Forest City followed with 101 and 88.
Freshman Lexi Jones had a pair of first place finishes in field events for the Lions. She won the high jump by clearing 5’ and the long jump with a mark of 15’4”.
Emilie Jandebeur also earned a first place finish. The sophomore took honors in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:43.48. She was also part of the Sprint Medley relay team which placed second in 2:04.58. Other members of the relay included Megan Merfeld, McKenna Backhaus and Molly Dugan.

•100 hurdles: Tali Tesar, fourth, 17.98
•400 hurles: Tesar, fourth, 1:15.65
•4x100: fifth, Michaela Niles, Dugan, Aspen Curtis, Megan Merfeld, 56.07
•4x200: third, Backhaus, Kayla Ritter, Curtis, Merfeld, 2:00.00
•Shuttle hurdle: fourth, Joslyn Gannon, Ritter, Niles, Tesar, 1:16.66
Junior varsity
Michaela Niles was a winner in the junior varsity long jump. Niles jumped 13’8.5” to win the blue ribbon. Katie Adams was a placewinner in two events. She was third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:34.55 and fifth in the 100 meter dash in 16.37. Selena Borrill was fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 34.05.
The JV 4x100 relays with Halie Westendorf, Emily Vander Ploeg, Borrill and Joslyn Gannon was fifth in 1:01.67. The 4x200 team of Vander Ploeg, Gannon, Westendorf and Borrill was sixth in 2:16.55.
Bulldog Relays
The girls were in Hampton Friday, May 1, for the 10-team Bulldogs Relays. The Lions were eighth overall with 53 points. Hudson took the team title with 134.
Molly Dugan was a winner in the 200 meter dash in a time of 28.92. Lexi Jones had a pair of runner-up finishes in field events. The freshman cleared 4’10” in the high jump and had a long jump of 15’5”. McKenna Backhaus was second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.55.
