John Latham

    John David Latham, 77, of 303 S. Union St., Ottumwa, Iowa, died July 5, 2012.
    He was born March 31, 1935, in Clear Lake to Francis Henry and Edna Margaret Buffington Latham.

    He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-59. He worked construction and joined the Operating Engineers Union Local 234 in 1965, retiring in 1994. He operated the crane that built Carver Sports Arena. He enjoyed going for walks, golfing and spending time with family.
    Survivors include one son, Fred Latham of Ottumwa; four daughters, Lori Avise of Rockwell, Iowa, Jean Felts, of Winnsboro, S.C., Lisa Overland, of Kensett, Iowa and Susan Beauchamt; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Fran Rutledge of Grand Rapids, Mich., Helen Latham of Wheaton, Ill., Veronica Enabnit of Mesa, Ariz., and Lucy Peevy of Tulsa, Okla.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Bowers, Rosemary Dewitt and Bev Swan; and one brother, Richard J. Latham.
    His body has been cremated, and no services are planned.
    Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, Ottumwa, is in charge of arrangements.
