Joan Pump

 

Joan Elaine (Terhune) Pump, 82, of 602 First Ave. NW, Rockford, Iowa, passed away on Friday,  Oct. 26, 2012 at home, of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford.  Officiating was Pastor Robert Scheurer. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.  Condolences may be shared with the family at www.fullertonfh.com. 

Joan was born on March 25, 1930, in Iowa City to Omar and Stella (Kress) Terhune.  She attended school in Lone Tree, Iowa, and graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria, Ill.  She married Richard R. Pump on August 6, 1950 in Jesup, Iowa.  Together they had five children residing in Jesup before moving to Rockford, Iowa in 1968.  She held jobs as a data processor at EDP in Waterloo, at White Farm in Charles City, and at United Home Bank in Mason City.  She also worked at the Post Offices in Rockford and Mason City when she retired. 

Joan was a member of the Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 in Jesup. She was an active member of her church, serving as treasurer, and a volunteer for the Department of Human Services.  Her interests included reading, bowling, roller skating, playing cards and following the Hawkeyes. 

Joan is survived by five children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: sons, Gary (Pam) of Washington, Iowa, and their sons, Tanner (Sara), Terry (Missy) and Lucas (McKessey); Larry (Sue) of Rockford, Iowa, and children, Keith, Cody and Staci; Rod (Jeff) of Clear Lake, Iowa and his son, Barry; Todd (Suzette) of Vancouver, Wash.; and daughter, Marty, of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Leah and Lydia Pump and Treyton Pump.  She is also survived by sisters, Betty Boots and Maryanne Buss; brother, Jim Terhune; sister-in-law, Joyce Terhune; and many nieces and nephews. 

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2007; great-granddaughter, Hannah Pump in 2006; her parents; brother, Wally Terhune; and sister, Jane Carson. 

Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Rockford, was in charge of arrangements.
