Jimmie McGill Barber Brown, 84, passed from this life on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Madill Church of Christ at 11 a.m. in Madill, Okla., with Basil McClure, nephew-in-law, officiating.  Interment will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Okla.

Jimmie was born in Oakland, on Feb. 1, 1929, the first daughter of J.B. McGill and Lorene McGill.  She graduated from Madill High School in 1947.  Baptized as a teenager, Jimmie was a member of the Church of Christ.

Jimmie’s first job was at the Madill Record.  She later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Madill, and Dallas, Texas, and retired from the Dallas Morning News.  She lived in Tulsa, Okla., in the 1960s and had many friends there.  In 2005 she moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, to be near her beloved son, Brad Barber, and his family.

Surviving are a son, Brad Barber, and wife, Angie, their daughter, Abbie, all of Clear Lake; a grandson, Robert Barber, and wife, Danielle, of Mason City, Iowa; a sister, Verzella Rainwater, and husband, Howard, of Denison, Texas; two nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.  

Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Hewitt Brown; a sister, Joy McGill Willis; a nephew, Richard Willis, II.  

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
