Jerry A. Thorson
Jerry A. Thorson, 73, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2013 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with Pastor Dennis Dickman officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Jerry was born on May 8, 1940, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Annis and Rose (Streicht) Thorson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Jerry attended the St. Ansgar school system, graduating in 1958, from the St. Ansgar High School. Following his schooling, Jerry worked for Lincoln Office Supply in Waterloo. On April 29, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Francis Pike in Austin, Minn. The couple made their home in Waterloo and to this union three children were born, Michele, Teresa, and Jon. The couple later divorced. On Aug. 25, 1984, Jerry was united in marriage to Kay (Kinkel) Ferguson at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Waverly and Jerry went to work at Kay and L Draperies as a contract sales agent for the company.
Jerry was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, transferring his membership from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly in 2013. He was a member of Centennial Oaks Golf Club, where in his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf with Kay and friends, visiting with people, and dearly loved his time spent at the Villages in Florida and Clear Lake. What gave Jerry the most joy was spending time with Kay, their children, grand and great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kay Thorson of Waverly, Iowa; his three children, Michele (Michael) Sears of Charlotte, S.C., Teresa Beverley of San Antonio, Tex, Jon (Lise) Thorson of Virginia Beach, Va.; Kay’s two children, Julie (Jim) Lammers of Waverly, Iowa, and Jeff Ferguson of Columbia, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Elisabeth and Anna Sears, Anthony, Justice and Kendall Beverley, Jessica (Garret) Stensland, Amanda (Jason) Cutsforth, Matthew (Brandi) Iverson, Annie Lammers; five great-grandchildren, Marcus, Kaylee, and Rylee Cutsforth, Shelbi and Kegan Iverson; a brother, Merlyn (Sue) Thorson of St. Ansgar, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Vance (Ann) Kinkel of Maple Grove, Minn.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Annis and Rose.
Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.
