Holiday Magic

The holiday season got into full swing over the weekend, as Clear Lake welcomed thousands to its 20th annual Christmas By The Lake celebration.

Mother Nature did her part to make the event a success-- leaving a hint of snowfall, but providing temperatures in the 30s, perfect for strolling through the downtown to shop, play or just take in the sites.

Christmas By The Lake Chairman Gene Madson said the event went off without a hitch.  In fact, there were even a few surprises.

“It was a fantastic day-- top three of all time, I’d have to say.  A lot of that is due to the weather, but there were also a lot more people here earlier in the day enjoying all the activities.  It was great to see,” said Madson.

Long lines of revelers waited for their chance to step inside Santa’s House, or catch a ride on horse-drawn carriages and sleighs.

A highlight of the day is always the Lighted Parade, and this year’s had an added attraction.  Madson said he was ready to call the fireworks crew and have them put up a burst to signal the parade was ready to start when committee member Al Ashland asked him to hold off for a few minutes.  Shortly after, four planes in formation appeared in the sky and flew over the downtown.  They were followed by two more, then another single.  Finally, a large plane swooped over the crowd just before the parade began.
