Highway 122 crash sends two to hospital

Two persons were transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after their vehicle was struck broadside by a vehicle which ran a red light.  According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 

2000 Chevrolet Impala driven by Larry Hirsch, of Sheffield, Iowa was stopped at the bottom of the off ramp from Interstate 35 to High 122 for a red light.  When the light turned green he attempted to continue for a left turn.  A  2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Alissa Bergman, of Clear Lake, reportedly failed to stop for a red light and struck the Hirsch vehicle on the passenger side.  Hirsch, along with Polly Kothenbeutel, a passenger in the Hirsch vehicle, were transported to the hospital by Clear Lake Ambulance crews.  ISP said the Hirsch vehicle was totalled in the accident.  Damage to Bergman’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000.  The accident was reported at 6:08 p.m., Tuesday, April 28. -Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.
