Head-on accident sends three to hospital

A head-on collision between an SUV and mid-sized sedan on Highway 18 West Tuesday sent three persons to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Aug. 5, 18-year-old Ashton Trenhaile, of Lake Mills, Iowa was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2000

Chrysler 300 when his vehicle left the roadway. He apparently over-corrected the vehicle’s path, sending it directly into a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 23-year-old Abby Sieman, of Meservey, Iowa which was westbound on Highway 18.
One Clear Lake ambulance and two from Mason City responded to the scene.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Trenhaile and a passenger in his vehicle, 17-year-old Aunastashya Beebe, of Forest City, Iowa were transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in critical condition.
Sieman and her four-month-old child, which was secured in a car seat in the back seat of the Jeep, were also taken to Mercy Hospital and were in stable condition. The extent of Sieman’s injuries were unknown; the child suffered a broken femur, according to the ISP.
Updated condition reports for Trenhaile and Beebe were not available at press time.
The Clear Lake Police and Fire Departments and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.
Highway 18 traffic was re-routed for a portion of Tuesday afternoon while the accident scene was investigated and cleaned up.
