Gordon L. Wiemann

 

Gordon Lynn Wiemann, 78, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023 at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City. 

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. North, Clear Lake.  A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the First Reformed Church, 620 2nd St., Meservey, with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating.  Burial will take place at the Meservey Cemetery; following the graveside, a celebration of life will continue at the VFW, 219 Main Ave, Clear Lake, from 5-7 p.m., with fellowship and dancing!

Gordon Lynn Wiemann was born Dec. 18, 1944, in Mason City, the son of Leonard and Lyda (Koenen) Wiemann.  He was raised on a farm in Meservey. Gordy farmed with his parents and milked cows; at the age of five he could drive a tractor. Gordy graduated from Meservey Thornton High School in 1963; and continued his education through a baseball and basketball scholarship at Eagle Grove Junior College.  

Gordy met Judy Darland and was united in marriage on Oct. 15, 1965; to this union they were blessed with four children.  Gordy and Judy made their home in Meservey where they raised their children on the farm; livestock farming 7,000 chickens.

Gordy worked several jobs during his life, he worked on the railroad and sold golf equipment, the job he loved the most was being an auctioneer with his father, Leonard.  They had Wiemann Auction Service.

Gordy and Judy loved dancing, they won three dance contests; they both loved The Surf Ballroom especially during “Buddy Holly” or Winter Dance Party.  Gordy’s favorite sports teams were the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Gordy played fast and slow pitch softball; he played fast pitch until the age of 42 and slow pitch until he was 62.  Other hobbies he enjoyed were horseshoes, pool, bowling, golf, and cornhole (bags).

Survivors include his children, Marcy (Randee) Hyde, Becky (Rich) Formanek, Gary (Brooke) Wiemann; grandchildren, Jamie (Brandon) Trenhaile, Jesse Halfpop, Jacob Hyde and fiancé Kelli Wilson, Britney (Tyler) Weigel, Nick (Kourtney) Formanek, Cody Wiemann, Haley Wiemann, Connor Wiemann, Cooper Wiemann; 10 great- grandchildren; sister, Carmen Johnson; sister-in-law, Beverly Hartnett; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Gordy is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lyda Wiemann; daughter, Heidi Wiemann and wife, Judy Wiemann.

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
