Glenn Fergason

Glenn V. Fergason, 93, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Hospice of North Iowa.  Most recently, Glenn resided at Homestead Assisted Living, Mason City, Iowa. 

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Reverend Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church in 

Clear Lake officiating.   Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday by the Benevolence Masonic Lodge of Mason City.  Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by member of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel. 

The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in Glenn’s name, may wish to give a memorial to Hospice of North Iowa or to the North Iowa Human Society.   

Glenn was born, April 25, 1919 in Lake City, Iowa, to Herman and Grace Anna Fergason.

Glenn attended Lake City schools and graduated from Lake City High School in 1938.  He joined the Navy in 1942 and served during WWII.  He took his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago and was stationed in New York, N.Y.; Pensacola, Fla.; and Bermuda. He was honorably discharged in 1945.  After being discharged from the Navy, he began a career in sales, traveling the North Iowa area. Glenn’s sales career included wholesale bakery products, cemetery plots, and petroleum products.

  Glenn married Thelma A. Jette in 1943 in Lincoln, Neb., and settled with his mother-in-law and father-in-law in Clear Lake in 1947.  Into this marriage was born one son, Paul.

After retirement, Glenn spent over 20 years wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., where he enjoyed the traveling pool leagues and social activities at the community center.  During the summers, he returned to Clear Lake to help take care of the family home.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma A. Fergason (Jette) and brother, Marvin.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul Jette Fergason and wife, Diana Dobish of Clear Lake; brother, Jimmy Fergason, Lake City; granddaughter, Shanie Eckard (Trent) Plant City, Fla.; and great-grandson, Camdon Eckard, and other extended family members and friends.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
