Girls shatter school record to claim Regional title
The Clear Lake girls golf team shattered a school record on their way to a Class 3A Regional title Monday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course. The win sends the Lions to the State Meet in Ankeny next week (May 29-30) with momentum and confidence.
The Lions posted a team score of 324, 20 strokes better than runner-up South Tama. The mark was 10 strokes better than the previous school record team score. Nevada and Spencer each finished with scores of 400.
Clear Lake’s Meg Monson shot a (38-38) 76 and finished as runner-up. South Tama’s Paige Van Dyk earned top honors with rounds of 39 and 35 for a 74.
The remainder of the Lions’ record setting team included Malorie Fischels (42-38) 80, Taylor Berger (45-39) 84 and Paige Backhaus (42-42) 84.
