Girls hoping for a return trip to State Golf Meet

    The Clear Lake girls will be vying for a chance to return to the State Meet when they host Regionals at Veterans Memorial Golf Club Monday, May 21.  The Lions captured their District crown Monday at Humboldt.  Clear Lake (348) and runner-up Spencer (401) will be joined by South Tama and Nevada, the top two finishers at Ames on Monday.  South Tama, led by Taylor Van Dyke’s 82, finished with a team score of 360.  Nevada was the runner-up with 404.

    Meg Monson led the Lions to their decisive District victory.  She shot a medalist round of (43-39) 82.
    Three more Lions finished in the top five in the District.  Malorie Fischels was second in the individual standings with a (41-47) 88.  Taylor Berger (47-42) 89 and Paige Backhaus (44-45) 89 were fourth and fifth.
    Humboldt’s Savannah Schnetzer also qualified for Regional play with a (47-41) 88.

Girls win Forest City Invitational
    Clear Lake won the Forest City Invitational Friday, May 11, at Bear Creek Golf Course.  The Lions were led by Malorie Fischels, who was the medalist with an 82.  Meg Monson was one stroke back with an 83.  Paige Backhaus’ 88 and Taylor Berger’s 89 gave the Lions a team score of 342.
    Mason City was second in the team standings with 404, followed by Newman Catholic at 438, Clarion-Goldfield at 486 and Forest City with 489.
