Girls drop NCC games
After sparking their season with back-to-back wins a week earlier, the Clear Lake softball team dropped three contests with North Central Conference teams.
GARRIGAN 4, CL 0
The Lions shoed defensive improvement, but their bats were silent in a 4-0 loss to Algona Garrigan Monday, June 3.
“We have been working hard on defensive strategies,” said Coach Megan Young. “In the Bishop Garrigan game we only had one fielding error. While batting we had continual pop flies which resulted in outs. We are working on this to improve our batting to meet the high standards of Clear Lake softball.”
Senior Megan Loux provided two of her teams’ five hits. Hannah Bartlett, Kaitlyn Pitzen and Tori Fyfe had the other hits.
Sara Barlow was the losing pitcher. She gave up 10 hits, walked two and struck out four over six innings.
ST. ED’S 12, CL 1
Hits were again at a premium at Fort Dodge St. Ed’s Wednesday, June 5. The Lions managed just four hits and scored one run in a 12-1 five-inning loss.
Kaitlyn Pitzen reached base twice on hits. Annie Snyder and Jenna Peterson had singles, with Snyder getting an RBI.
Jenna Peterson threw for the Lions. The senior gave up 12 hits, walked eight and struck out one.
WEBSTER CITY 8, CL 0
Megan Loux had a pair of hits, including a triple, but the Lions were defeated in an 8-0 game played with Webster City on Thursday, June 6. Freshmen Michaela Nikes and Erin O’Tool had the only other hits for Clear Lake.
Webster City put three runs on the board in the third, then went scoreless until the sixth when they added four. The Lynx tacked on an insurance run in the seventh for the 8-0 total.
Sara Barlow pitched for the Lions. She gave up 12 hits, walked two and struck out four.
