GHV votes pass easily

Voters in the Garner-Hayfield and Ventura school districts overwhelmingly approved continuing two issues currently in place in the individual districts that need to be combined once they become a single district next school year.

On  Dec. 2 voters approved on a 196-8 margin the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, which allows the purchase of equipment from the PPEL fund and not from the general fund. Both districts currently have the PPEL fund in place and the passing of this election allows the new district to carry on as both schools have for decades.

Voters also approved the district’s revenue purpose statement on a 191-14 margin.  It describes how the one-cent sales tax dollars are allowed to be spent. Both schools have the same language individually, and the same language had to be approved for the new district.

The two school districts will consolidate in the 2015-16 school year; the districts have operated under a whole grade sharing agreement for three years.

The vote was canvassed Monday, Dec. 8.
