GHV softball team goes 3-2 on the week

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team picked up some crucial conference wins, going 3-2 on the week.

GHV 5, Lake Mills 4
 It was a real nail-biter for the GHV girls softball team on Monday night, June 9, when they hosted Lake Mills.
 The Bulldogs led 3-2 after the first three innings. The Cardinals went on to score one run in each of the sixth, seventh and 

eighth innings, while Lake Mills only scored one more run in the seventh to give GHV a 5-4 one point victory.
 The Cardinal bats were in fine form Monday night as the team collected 13 hits. GHV pitcher Brooklyn Ossman pitched all eight innings and only gave up five hits. She struck out three and walked two.
 Tiara Van Gerpen had a strong night on offense, collecting two hits, two runs and she stole two bases. Payton Bamrick also had a hot bat, collecting a team high three hits. Mackenzie Van Gerpen smacked a double and brought in a run. Maddie Tusha and Miranda Jackson had two hits apiece. Mallory Van Oort, Brooklyn Ossman and Grace Tusha each hit a single.
 Rounding out the scoring was Jacki Van Oort with two runs and Mallory Van Oort scored one run.
 “Each individual has brought what we are asking them to do in their specific role,” said Coach Christi Weiser. “I know it’s not easy to be the person on the bench, but we have great kids who have shown a commitment to doing their jobs as well as they can every game. I really appreciate the daily effort from those kids especially.”

Osage 10, GHV 3
 It was a tough road game for the Cardinals on Wednesday, June 11, when they traveled to Osage. The Green Devils pounded GHV in a 10-3 victory.
 Osage’s bats contributed to the win. The Green devils had 13 hits compared to the Cardinals’ five.
 GHV scored all three of their runs in the first inning. Osage started slow, but picked up momentum as the game went on, scoring seven of their runs in the last two innings.
 Brooklyn Ossman took the loss on the mound. She pitched the entire game, giving up 13 hits. She walked three and struck out one.
 Collecting a single hit apiece were Maddie Tusha, Tiara Van Gerpen, Payton Bamrick, Ossman, and Mackenzie VanGerpen. Tiara Van Gerpen, Mallory Van Oort and Mackenzie Van Gerpen all had RBIs. Scoring for the Cardinals was Tusha, Tiara Van Gerpen and Brooklyn Laird.

Rockford 7, GHV 2
 Rockford proved to be a little too much for the Cardinals. They topped GHV 7-2 on Thursday, June 12.
