GHV girls remain focused

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team is remaining focused and has been breaking personal and season best performances, which is exactly what Coach Dyan Childress wants to see at this point in the season.

“Next week we are headed into the biggest week of the season.  The girls are excited to go all out and see what we can do at the conference and district meets,” said Childress.

GHV Co-ed Meet

On Monday, May 4, the Cardinals hosted an eight team meet for Parent’s Night.  GHV was once again near the bottom with 35 points for seventh place.  Osage won the meet with 160 points.

The Cardinals had two events place second.  Taylor Vossberg cleared 4’10” in the high jump.  The shuttle hurdle relay, consisting of Miranda Jackson, Jillian Heitland, Brooklynn Ossman and Stacy Hackenmiller, was second with a 1:11.48.

Rebekah Larson ran a strong 3000, finishing in third place with a 12:26.39.

The 4x800 meter relay and the sprint medley both earned four place finishes.  The 4x800, consisting of Morgan Graham, Whelan, Hennings and Hannah Wellik, ran the race in 12:13.65.  The sprint medley team of Hennings, Mallory Van Oort, Vossberg and Jacki Van Oort finished in 2:01.29.

The distance medley team of Courtney Prescott, Whelan, Jacki Van Oort and Larson finished in fifth place with a time of 4:59.58.

Clear Lake Meet

The Cardinals took a short road trip to Clear Lake on Thursday, May 7, for a short night of track.  Due to inclement weather, the meet was cut short with several events remaining.  GHV placed seventh in the eight field competition with 40 points.  Saint Ansgar won the meet with 130 points.

Taylor Vossberg placed second in the high jump, clearing 4’10”.

Fifth place seemed to be the theme of the night for the Cardinals, as four events all placed fifth: Rebekah Larson in the 3000 meter run, 12:40.77; Stacy Hackenmiller in the 100 meter hurdles, 17.31; Emma Whelan in the 200 meter dash, 28:98; and the distance medley relay of Casie Conley, Courtney Prescott, Rachel Weaver and Larson, 5:05.30.
