GHV girls open season with a scrimmage against Mohawks
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team tipped off their season on Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they traveled to Mason City for a Hall of Pride Scrimmage against the Mohawks.
The Cardinals came out ready to play against the 4A school and only
trailed by seven points, 24-17, at halftime. The Mohawks took control of the second half on their way to a 50-28 victory.
As part of the Pride Challenge, the schools identified a community service project that is meaningful for their school and community. The Mohawks will be volunteering with United Way of North Central Iowa and the Cardinals will be volunteering in the Garner community. In addition to the community service projects, all proceeds from the game were donated to United Way to improve north central Iowa communities.
Spectators of the game were encouraged to bring empty, redeemable pop cans to donate them to United Way of North Central Iowa’s Can Hunger Campaign. Money from these cans will help in feeding the elementary students of the BackPack ProgramTM through the holidays.
