GHV girls golf team tops C-G
Frayne earns medalist honors
The first meet of the season for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team was a success, despite the cold weather. The Cardinals picked up a 190-199 win over Clarion-Goldfield and freshman Bailee Frayne claimed medalist honors.
“I couldn’t be happier with our team score,” said Coach Todd Greiman. “If we can find our more consistent scorer we could become a very competitive team. Right now there are five girls competing for the final three spots on the roster and any one of them are capable of bringing in the kind of score that we’re missing right now.”
Leading the way for the Cards was Frayne with a 38.
“Bailee has set the bar very high for herself. For a freshman, she plays very consistently and her hard work over the past several years is obviously paying dividends,” said Greiman.
Madee Hejna and Kyleigh Slaichert were close, carding a 46 and 48 respectively.
“Madee and Kyleigh appear to have picked up where they left off last May,” said Greiman.
Rounding out the roster was Rachel Enright with a 60, Paige Penning carded a 63, and Elly Johnson finished with a 70.
The team faces Newman Catholic on Monday, April 13, at the Mason City Country Club. Tee-off is set for 4:15 p.m.
