Library offers ‘Food for Fines’ during January

The Clear Lake Public Library will accept canned foods in payment for fines during the month of January.  Food items collected will be donated to the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank.

For each non-perishable food item received by the library the donor will be credited for $1 toward fines owed on their account.  “Food for Fines” applies only to fines accrued for the late return of library items, and credits will not be applied to charges due to library items being lost or damaged.  “Food for Fines” will not apply to DVD movies returned during the month of January 2014.

The library requests that donated food items not be expired or damaged, and items in glass containers will not be accepted.  Items especially needed include peanut butter, canned meat (beef stew, etc.), and canned vegetables and fruit.

Persons not owing fines are also welcome to donate to the library’s food drive.  For more information contact the library at 357-6133.
