Gary Anderson

    Gary M. Anderson, 74, of 20 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 24, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to the Gary M. Anderson Memorial Fund.

    Gary was born June 10, 1937 in Swaledale, Iowa, the son of Marvin H. and Margaret K. (Nelson) Anderson.  He lived in the Swaledale and Thornton areas and moved with his folks to Clear Lake in 1948.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957. He married Darlene Nichols Hakes in March 1968.
    He worked for the Clear Lake Bakery for over 20 years and then Country Inn.  He enjoyed watching and collecting old western and WWII movies.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
    Gary is survived by three children; Scott (Tammy) Hakes, Hanlontown, Iowa, Jaime Hakes and Penny Miranda, Clear Lake, and Jennifer  Anderson Allen, Mason City; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and three siblings, Dennis (Marcia) Anderson, Clear Lake, David (Judy) Anderson, Clear Lake and Carolyn Levenhagen, Johnston, Iowa; his special nephew, Travis and many other nieces and nephews. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; great-grandson, Colby Hakes; and former wife, Darlene Kline.
