G-H/V soccer boys split Sub-State games
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team won the first Sub-State game in the program’s three year history when they defeated West Sioux, 2-1.
Brad Nedved scored the team’s first goal early in the first half on a shot that bounced around in front of the net. West Sioux returned the favor to knot the game, 1-1. Neither scored the remainder of the game, sending the match into overtime.
West Sioux’s defense put a lot of pressure on G-H/V’s goalie, Nathan Hrubes in the first half of overtime, but according to Coach Eric William’s, Hrubes handled the pressure and kept all balls from the net.
Thirty seconds into the second half of overtime, Jimmy Ermer was fouled at mid-pitch, and Leonard Heurtbize took the free kick. With a little help from the wind, Heurtbize blasted the ball towards the goal, where it took a big bounce and went over the goalie’s head and - Read More Via e-Edition
