Four Ventura players earn Cornbelt conference golf recognition
The Ventura boys and girls golf teams competed in the Cornbelt Conference Golf Tournament on Monday, April 30. The boy’s team golfed at West Bend, while the girl’s team competed in Graettinger.
The boy’s team placed sixth in the seven team competition. Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Ahryshire tied for the team title with 341 points. Ventura scored 377 points.
Dylan Smith, from G-T/R-A, won the medalist honors with his score of 78. The Vikings had three players named to the All-Conference Team. Jacob Heinemann earned First Team All-Conference honors with his score of 85. Josh Theobald was named Second Team All-Conference with a score of 88. Drew Vaage scored 96 for Third Team All-Conference recognition.
Rounding out Ventura’s score was Jace Byers with a 108. Ryan Grunwald shot a 110, while Walker Winkelman had a 117 for Ventura.
“The boys had a great day,” said Coach Joe Obermann. “The girls, however, had a rough day.”
The girls team finished the meet with 544 points, for sixth place. North Union won the meet with 415 points. Brittney Evans, from North Union, was the medalist with a score of 97.
Madison Hejna led the Ventura team with a score of 126. Her score earned her Third Team All-Conference recognition.
Rounding out Ventura’s score was Kasie Tavenier, 135; Madison Benzing, 141; and Whitney Watson, 142. Also golfing for Ventura was Emily Joynt with a 172.
