Four Oaks kicks off capital campaign

Officials from Four Oaks, a residential facility specializing in mental health treatment for boys and girls ages five through 12-years, launches its “Assuring Success” capital campaign Wednesday, Sept. 4.  The campaign will allow Four Oaks to build a new Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children (PMIC) residential facility to meet the

 needs of children and families in North Iowa and will further allow the agency to continue using the existing amps for the agency’s community and school-based programs, functional family therapy program, instate systems and the centralization of administrative offices.

Currently, the PMIC residential treatment facility is housed at Indianhead, a home built east of Mason City in 1929 by General MacNider. With an aging facility, concerns of over-crowding and children’s safety, along with new government code requirements, made it essential that Four Oaks address critical facility needs.

In 2006, Four Oaks took over the lease from Nexus of the Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children facility in Mason City.  The facility is a 45-bed comprehensive licensed psychiatric medical facility.  Children who have severe behavioral and mental health disorders requiring a structured 24-hour awake supervised care program lasting 10 to 12 months.

Four Oaks has entered into a development/management long-term lease agreement with Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City for a parcel of land where the new PMIC residential treatment facility will be built.  With this encouragement, Four Oaks initiated a feasibility study to assess the level of interest and potential support for a capital campaign to build a new PMIC facility.  The feasibility study began in January 2013 with the final report submitted - Read More Via e-Edition
