Equipment purchase OK’d

The Council approved the purchase of a new front-end loader-mounted rotary snowblower for its Public Works Deparment.  Road Use Tax revenues will fund the $160,000 purchase.

Public Works Director Joe Weigel told the Council the city’s newest front-end loader-mounted snow blower was purchased in 2001 and has approximately 527 hours on it.

The City currently relies on a 1979 loader, with a 1961 and 1973 SnoGo rotary snow blower heads as back-up.  The backup unit requires substantial maintenance and parts are becoming more difficult to locate, said Weigel.  New units are more easily operated, reducing operator time, and are more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient.

Bids will be solicited and the Council will consider proposals at its Jan. 19 meeting.
