Edward Tosel

    Edward Oscar Tosel, 92, Mason City, Iowa, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Sunday, July 24, 2011, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
    A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 29, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E. Mason City, with Pastor Lionel Hart officiating.  A family graveside service will be held at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association.

    The family will greet friends and family from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, July 29, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E. Mason City.
    In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Edward Tosel Memorial in care of Stella Tosel.  Memorials will later be distributed to children’s organizations in Edward’s memory.
    Edward Oscar Tosel was born April 5, 1919, in Manly, Iowa the son of James and Anna (Johnson) Tosel.  He graduated from Mason City High School. Edward was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Stella VanLaningham, on July 30, 1938. To this union five children were born.  Edward worked at King Brothers, Chrysler Auto dealership, Wayland Auto and retired after working at Midland Co-op.
    Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed family and friends. He was most happy when he was camping or on a fishing trip with his family.  Edward loved woodworking, making jewelry, and traveling.  Edward and Stella wintered in Arizona for several years.  He was a member of Home Fellowship Church.
    Edward is survived by his wife of 74 years, Stella Tosel, Mason City; children, Gary (Julie) Tosel, Omaha, Neb., Kevin Tosel, Chandler, Az., Jean Howell, Clear Lake, Dima (Dennis) Krull, Ankeny, Iowa, Judy (Dennis) Schmidt, Mason City; grandchildren, Rhonda (Jeff) Nabity, Lisa (George) Rakes, Eric (Linda) Howell, Penny Axiotis, Chad (Anna) Krull, Heidi (Jason) Vessely, Wendy Hutson, Barry (Marykay) Schmidt, Randy Schmidt, Casey Schmidt, Megan (Darin) Chettick; great-grandchildren, Gary James Rakes, Susan Rakes, Cody and Jamie Howell, Nick Axiotis, Caity and Alyssa Krull, Camden and Calvin Vessely, Kyle and Kayleigh Eden, Cassidy Gordon, Tice McKenzie, Ben, Ryan, Jennie Macy, Ike, and Eli Schmidt, McKinley and Dane Chettick; and one great-great-granddaughter, Chloee Howell; siblings, Sy Tosel and Ava Coolican, both of Mason City; along with numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
    Edward is preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Chris Axiotis; brother, Elmer Tosel; and sister, Maxine Judd.
