Dynamic duo tie for first in Co-Ed State Meet
The brother and sister duo of Luke and Meg Monson capped off great high school golfing careers at Clear Lake High School by tying for first in the Class 2A State Co-Ed Golf Tournament.
The Monsons tied Dowling Catholic’s Jon Calhoun and Sammy Olson with a score of 75. The Dowling team was
awarded the win on a scorecard playoff. Dowling parred hole No. 9 and Clear Lake bogeyed the hole. Three teams followed with 76s in the very competitive tourney played Tuesday, June 5, at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.
“They are the best pair of alternate shooters I’ve ever seen. In my opinion, they won the State title,” said Clear Lake Golf Coach Eric Perry.
Another Clear Lake team, freshman Tommy Schick and sophomore Paige Backhaus, finished 31st in the 54-team large school field with a score of 88.
The tournament used an alternate shot format. The male tees off on the odd numbered holes, the female tees off on the even-numbered holes and the teams alternate shots after the tee shot.
