Dorothy A. Wenzel
Dorothy Ann Wenzel, 83, 126 N. 14th St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 26 at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Rev. Kirk Wilke officiating. Graveside services were held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne, Minn., with Rev. Mark Mumme, of Zion Lutheran Church, Hardwick, Minn. officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Clear Lake Senior Center or Opportunity Village.
Dorothy was born May 26, 1931 in Baltic, S.D., the daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Aasan) Stageberg. She was valedictorian of Baltic High School, class of 1949. Dorothy married Lester Wenzel on Jan. 23, 1954 in Baltic. They lived in Pipestone, Minn. and Hardwick before moving to Clear Lake in 1972.
She worked for Opportunity Village for over 12 years.
Dorothy played piano, loved all music, especially enjoyed going to the Clear Lake Bandshell, looking at flowers and Christmas lights, and all the simple pleasures. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, 500 and pinochle being her favorites, and solving crossword puzzles. Spending time with her grandchildren was very special to her. She was active in the Clear Lake Senior Center serving as musician and treasurer. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, David (Judy) Wenzel, White Bear Lake, Minn., Diana Wenzel, Blanca, Colo., and Lori (Dana) Nelson, Ocean Springs, Mo.; seven grandchildren. Kirby Nelson, Jill Nelson and fiancé Mitch Storey, Charley Nelson, Erik Nelson, Erin Wenzel, Alexi Wenzel and Abby Wenzel; and one brother, Gene Stageberg, Brandon, S.D.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Les (Feb. 2, 1998); two sisters, Florence Fiegen and Margaret Nessan; and one brother, Robert Stageberg.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
