Democrats will choose Supervisor candidate tonight

 The Cerro Gordo County Democratic Party will hold a nominating convention at 6 p.m. tonight (June 18) at the County Courthouse Boardroom to decide who will be the party’s nominee in the November election for the County Supervisor District 2 seat.
 Supervisors canvassed the June 3 election on June 10 and determined none of the four Democratic candidates received 35 

percent of the vote, which is required by Iowa law to win a party primary election.
Adam Wedmore, of Rockwell, and Michael Grandon, Clear Lake, finished just one vote apart, 159-158, representing just under 33 percent of the vote. John Drury, of Swaledale, had 18 percent (88 votes) and Doug Nelson, of rural Clear Lake, received just under 15 percent (71 votes). There were eight write-in votes.
All four are eligible to be voted as the nominee by the convention delegates. Persons who did not formally run as a candidate in the primary may also be considered to represent the party in November.
Cerro Gordo County Democratic Party Chairman John Stone explained all the candidates will be allowed to speak at the nominating convention. The procedure will be open to the public.
Thirteen delegates, elected earlier this year at Democratic precinct caucuses, will make the candidate decision. A simple majority of the delegates is needed.
